Children’s Vegetable Garden

A great cooperative community venture!

[May 12, 2014] It’s a children’s vegetable garden! This year, the Dubuque Arboretum & Botanical Gardens are working together with Hy-Vee on Dodge Street as well as the Dubuque Boys and Girls Club to teach children how to plant and grow their own vegetables.  Special thanks to Hy-Vee for providing the curriculum for this educational program. That curriculum includes:

  • learning about the soil,Children's-Vegetable-Garden
  • learning how to strategically place their seeds for more produce, and even
  • learning how to cook them after the harvest.

The Dubuque Boys and Girls Club will be providing transportation for the children involved. [Thank you!] And interestingly, the raised garden bed that the Arboretum is providing was originally built for the purpose of a children’s garden.

We are so excited to work together to provide a rich, educational hands-on experience — a Children’s Vegetable Garden — to the youth in our community!
