Physical Accessibility

OUR VISION:

To increase accessibility to the Dubuque Arboretum regardless of physical ability.

  • Our ongoing commitment to accessibility continues as we improve walkways with additional paving throughout the grounds.
  • A wheelchair is available for complimentary use in the Visitor Center.
  • Public restrooms with handicap-accessibility and changing tables are available in the Visitor Center as well as near the Children’s Playground.

TOURS

Personal and Group Tours offered

Conducted by Arboretum staff and volunteers throughout the regular season, cart tours (as well as walking tours) are available 9a-4p Monday through Friday by reservation. No charge.

PLAY

Children’s Playground pieces include those specifically designed for children with sensory deficits and other developmental issues. The fun panels for children — with or without disabilities —include:

  • a sensory clock panel
  • a rain sound panel
  • an alpha maze in Braille
  • a bongo/xylophone panel
  • a marble panel

WITH APPRECIATION: The Children’s Playground equipment was donated and constructed by the Dubuque Noon Lions Club. Thank you.

Our Most Recent Accessibility Project [2021]

The Japanese Garden (including the Koi Pond area) is now accessible to all Dubuque Arboretum & Botanical Gardens visitors, with paving from the zigzag bridge to the moon bridge and up to the Japanese Garden parking lot. Those with strollers, wheelchairs, or other limitations are now able to easily access and enjoy the Japanese Garden and Koi Fish Pond.

WITH APPRECIATION: for a generous grant from the Dubuque Racing Association and Burnell and Karen Smith who provided the 25% match to complete the funding of this project.
