Securing the Future
The Arboretum :: Its Mission
To establish, preserve and maintain an arboretum and botanical garden that is a source of information, education, culture and beauty for all to know.
The Arboretum :: Its History
Quietly nestled on the city’s northwest side, this beautiful, park-like setting has been a part of the Dubuque community since 1980.
From its earliest days, the grounds have grown and expanded to feature more than 60 different types of gardens: roses, hostas, an English garden, a Japanese garden, tall stands of trees, herbs, vegetables, and more. That growth and expansion have made it a tri-state destination for families, tourists, weddings, concerts, clubs and organizations, school groups and more.
For all these years, the Arboretum has existed solely because of the kindness and devotion of many. And the results are truly amazing. A genuine grassroots effort, hundreds of volunteers have selflessly given thousands upon thousands of hours to the development and maintenance of the park and gardens. In fact, this facility is the largest and only public garden in the nation which has been run completely by volunteers. In addition, no funding is received from the city of Dubuque. No tax dollars support the Arboretum.
The Arboretum :: An Invitation to Get Involved
Whether you’ve been to the Arboretum many times or have never experienced the outdoor beauty of this treasure, you can help to secure its future. The video above highlights three uniquely personal stories … all connecting to the spiritual nature of the Dubuque Arboretum & Botanical Gardens. It offers a brief glimpse of our strong foundational past and, with your help, promises an amazingly beautiful future.
Your own family and future generations can continue to enjoy the wholesome surroundings that appeal to all ages: from couples with baby strollers to those in wheelchairs … and everyone in between.
The quality of life in Dubuque (and beyond) will continue to grow thanks to the kindness of volunteers and donors. Please consider a gift to the Arboretum’s continuing Securing the Future Campaign.
The Arboretum :: An Eye to the Future
A one-time contribution, or a commitment over multiple years, will help to:
- sustain the efforts that began more than 30 years ago,
- preserve the progress already made, and
- guarantee its existence and expansion in the years to come.
